Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
- 3–3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup warm milk
- 2 tbsp melted butter (+ more for brushing)
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix 1 cup warm water with 2 tsp sugar until dissolved. Sprinkle in yeast and let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Add ½ cup warm milk, 2 tbsp melted butter, 2 tbsp sugar, and 1 tsp salt to the yeast mixture. Stir well.
- Gradually stir in 3 to 3 ½ cups of flour, one cup at a time, until the dough is slightly sticky but not wet.
- Cover the bowl and let dough rise in a warm spot for 1–2 hours, until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, divide into 12 portions, and shape into balls.
- Place on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let rise for 30–45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F. Brush rolls with melted butter or egg wash.
- Bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown and rolls sound hollow when tapped.
Notes
For best results, ensure your yeast is fresh and water temperature is between 100°F–110°F for proofing. Rolls can be refrigerated overnight before baking.
